When the experiment began, I had general ideas of how my body would react to having no refined sugar (all good ways of course). What I didn't expect was how drastic the first set of results would be.
A weigh in was done yesterday, these will be done regularly to make sure that there are no adverse effects on my body such as muscle wastage. I had to do the stats twice, as I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing!!!
For all those sceptics of this experiment here are a few of the finer details:
- I have consulted with a nutritionist and the experiment is perfectly healthy (her words were more "you may even want to consider eating like this for the rest of your life...")
- I am not cutting calories anywhere. My level of activity and calorie intake is exactly the same as it has been. This experiment isn't a weight loss experiment; it is merely to show what effect is had on the body when refined, processed, crappy sugars are eliminated.
- I am consuming sugar, as carbohydrate is partly sugar. My body wouldn't be able to function or work without it. Fruit, veg, whole grains all have a form of sugar that is naturally occurring. All I am doing is not eating foods that read in the ingredients things like sugar, fructose, syrup, caramel, sweetener etc. Why look at the ingredients? Because this is where you can see the added extra crap besides the natural foods.
So, back to my check up yesterday. Yes I've gone through all the withdrawal symptoms and now feel much better, but I have to say what got me buzzing was that, merely from removing refined sugar from my diet....
in 3 days......
I have lost.....
1 pound, almost 1 percent of my body fat and reduced my metabolic age by 1 year....
I shit you not. And I don't consume a lot of sugar in comparison to the majority of the population. For all you people that think sugar isn't doing that much harm to your body… have a little think about this.
